Deep Engraving Laser Applications

Advancements in Q-switched Fiber Laser Technology have lead the way in producing excellent results in the processing of deep engraving applications. Utilizing a Q-switched Fiber Laser, our marking systems are able to deep engrave into a variety of materials with speed and precision.

Deep Engraving Sample #1

The powder coated red and yellow aluminum parts were marked using the i-Series Fiber Laser Kit with a 254mm lens. The parts were engraved with a frequency of 50 kHz. The fastest method to remove the paint was to mark each letter in the logo individually. Removing the paint going letter by letter gave the paint less time to cool of resulting in a much faster cycle time. The yellow part with 0.002" coating needed 51 seconds to be removed, while the red caliper with 0.0045" coating needed 140 seconds.

Deep Engraving Sample #2

The stainless steel pistol was marked using the i-Series Fiber Laser Kit with a 330-mm lens. Both sides of pistol were engraved with a frequency of 50 kHz, speed of 30" per second for engraving with 30 passes and 80” per second for cleaning with 2 passes, resulting in total cycle time of 6 min 27 sec. The depth was measured in the lab at 0.0063".

Deep Engraving Sample #3

The carbide steel block was marked using a 1mJ Q-Switched Fiber Laser using a 160 mm lens. The engraving was done in a two part process. First 4 passes were done using a slow speed of 4” per second then 4 more passes were done using a faster speed of 15” per second. All 8 passes were run using 20 kHz and 20 Watts. The depth was measured in the lab at 0.0037”- 0.0039”.

Fiber Laser Marking Fiber Laser Marking Kit

The i-Series Fiber Laser Marking Kit was specifically designed for maintenance-free OEM applications.  It delivers a diffraction limited (M2<1.05) laser beam directly to the worksite via a metal sheathed single mode fiber cable.

These compact service-free lasers are designed to operate under high shock, vibration and dust conditions, with relatively high humidity and temperatures. They do not require routine replacement parts or materials. Wall-plug efficiencies up to 50% result in a compact size, reduced utilities, and trouble-free air cooling.

Fiber-to-fiber architecture means a robust, monolithic design with no optics to align or maintain, no mechanics to stabilize, and with the focusable power and high power densities needed for the most demanding applications.
